Citalopram is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant used to treat depression. Citalopram may also be used off-label (not an approved use by the Food and Drug Administration, or FDA) to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, general anxiety disorder, binge eating disorder, premenstrual dysmorphic disorder (PMDD), alcoholism, and hot flashes associated with menopause.
