Alpha-lipoic acid is a fatty acid with antioxidant properties that help fight free radicals in the body. According to some claims, alpha-lipoic acid may be good for diabetes, heart health, weight loss, skin aging, and more. 

Alpha-lipoic acid, also called thioctic acid, is naturally found inside every cell of the human body and is used to convert carbohydrates to energy. Although it is made in small amounts by the body, it is also found in foods such as red meat, carrots, beets, spinach, broccoli, and potatoes. 

Since little is known about the effectiveness of alpha-lipoic supplements, however, consult your doctor before consumption.
