Celebrating 10 Years of Powerful Professional Learning

This year's LONG + LIVE + MATH: The National Institute was our biggest and best yet.

What a week we had in Bonita Springs, Florida! Nearly 300 math teachers and leaders joined us for an incredible week of learning, connecting and growing together. Here are some of our favorite highlights:

  • Sarah Galasso, our emcee, got us excited and inspired for next year.
  • Carnegie Learning Chief Mathematics Officer Sandy Finocchi kicked us off with insights and strategies for how to motivate students to learn (and love) mathematics.
  • Dr. Cathy Seeley, Former K-12 Director of Mathematics for Texas, Former Senior Fellow at the Charles A. Dana Center, Former President of NCTM, shared some powerful insights in her keynote, "Who's in Jeopardy? Thinking about Questions, Answers, and Equity in Today’s Mathematics Classroom."
  • LONG + LIVE + MATHers enjoyed hands-on breakout sessions on a variety of topics, including:
    • Hook Them In: The Secret to Engagement - back by popular demand! Attendees can't get enough of Dr. Bernard Frost (and neither can we!).
    • The Collaborative Classroom: Strategies and Beyond
    • When Literacy and Math Collide: Reading and Writing in Math Class
    • Opening Up Our Math Instruction: Creating Equitable Access for ELL Students
    • Purposeful Coaching
    • The Art of Solving Equations
    • The Power of a Question
  • In MyPL Live, we recorded five brand new videos for MyPL, our professional learning app, with our excellent Master Math Practitioners in front of our special live audience.
  • LONG + LIVE + MATHers took advantage of a free afternoon to do whatever they want, like visit the beach or take a boat over to the hotel's private island!
  • John Stevens, Author and Instructional Coach, helped us close out the week by sharing tips on "Cooking with Curiosity" that will keep kids coming back for more. ("If you sold tickets to your classroom, would students buy them?")

So where will we be next year?
