Meet Your Master Math Practitioner: Peter Carellas

Our Master Math Practitioners are out working with teachers to transform classrooms all over the country, day in and day out. We're super proud of them, and want to help you get to know them a little better!

Peter Carellas

Hometown: Albuquerque, NM

Experience: 12 years in the classroom teaching everything from 2nd-8th grade mathematics, followed by three years as a Middle School Mathematics Instructional Coach and three years working in education technology before joining the Carnegie Learning team.

Why Carnegie Learning? "I truly believe in the mission of Carnegie Learning. Mathematics is accessible to all and is learned best in environments where students can build on prior knowledge, engage in real-world mathematics, and have meaningful discussions where they have to defend their thinking and understand the thinking of others."

Fun Fact: "While I consider myself to be a decent athlete (seven years of CrossFit), my wife can still run circles around me!"

What educators are saying ABOUT peter:

"Peter was a great trainer! He was approachable and easy to talk with throughout the training. I learned so much and am excited to use this in my daily classroom routines!! Way to GO!!"

"Peter was fantastic! I wish our ENTIRE PD was just working with and gleaning from his expertise! I would love for him to come to my classroom, but I am especially anticipating my development with my students. Thank you so much!"

"This course has been an inspiration, not just for my math teaching but to be fresh and enthusiastic. Peter is fun, knowledgeable, engaging and treated all with respect."

"Peter taught by modeling how to teach. He brought energy to teaching math using different strategies. He made learning and teaching math fun again. I will be taking back the Standards for Mathematical Practices to incorporate into how I teach and assess math. I look forward to continuing the work he is doing for our district so our kids can have fun as they grow in math."
