Meet Your Master Math Practitioner: JiLL Swissa

Our Master Math Practitioners are out working with teachers to transform classrooms all over the country, day in and day out. We're super proud of them, and want to help you get to know them a little better!

JiLL Swissa

Hometown: Chicago, Illinois

Experience: "I taught high school mathematics both in New Jersey and Illinois. I taught at a special education school for students with learning, emotional, and behavioral challenges, and then I taught at a second chance school for students in Chicago."

Why Carnegie Learning? "I used Carnegie Learning in my own classroom, and I saw how it improved outcomes for my students and how it improved my own teaching as well."

Fun Fact: "I lived and worked in Japan for year! I taught all ages from little 4 year olds to a 93-year old. It was an incredible experience that allowed me to travel, learn a new language, learn aikido, eat new foods, and meet some wonderful people. I continue to have dreams about being back there."

What educators are saying ABOUT JILL:

"I have had the pleasure of working with JiLL Swissa in both my previous and current district. On Friday, JiLL conducted a K-5 Mathematical Discourse workshop for us - WOW!!!

It is quite evident that JiLL planned and prepared for the workshop. Over the course of the day, JiLL effectively engaged our staff in thoughtful and meaningful conversations through a series of well thought out activities and sharing opportunities. JiLL's ability to connect with teachers is remarkable, especially when she is pushing them out of their comfort zone. She has been a great resource for our administrative team and is always willing to share ideas and resources.

JiLL's assistance and guidance has allowed us to set a path of success for our teachers and students!"

- Kevin Suchinski, Superintendent, Hillside School District 93
