5 Education Trends to Look Out For This Year

Check out some of the top trends coming to a classroom near you.

Hot off the presses! We have the inside scoop from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) on the newest trends coming to a classroom near you this year.

1. Coding Literacy
Coding not only better prepares students for jobs in STEM fields, but also builds problem-solving skills and promotes creativity. More and more schools are emphasizing these skills in order to get students ready for the 21st century workforce. (Speaking of which, check out the exciting news about Carnegie Learning and Globaloria!)

2. Real-Time Feedback for Students and Teachers
Learning technology that offers feedback in real-time as students are working helps teachers address problems as they arise, not at the end of the grading period when it's too late. It also helps students take ownership of their own learning, and motivates them to persevere. Real-time feedback is critical for student success, which is why it plays such a large role in MATHia.

3. Virtual and Augmented Reality
These technologies allow students to have experiences outside of the classroom… without an expensive plane ticket! Students can go anywhere, any time, from the comfort of their classroom and apply their knowledge in new and exciting ways.

4. Media Literacy
In today's world of expanded technology and constant information, media literacy is a critical skill for students to learn. As a result, schools are looking to better prepare students to think critically and assess the credibility of sources.

5. Digital Citizenship
Likewise, students are also learning to better understand the role they play in the digital world and how to become responsible digital citizens. These issues are coming into play much earlier in students' lives than they did in the past, since technology surrounds us and so many interactions now take place online.

How have you seen these trends impact your school?
