Tutor Appreciation Week: Celebrating Our Incredible Tutors

Their dedication, expertise, and commitment to student achievement are the best in the tutoring community.

We're thankful for our tutors–especially this week!

It’s Tutor Appreciation Week, and we’re shining a spotlight on some remarkable individuals from our virtual tutoring team who have collectively made a difference in the lives of over 13,000 students.

Let's meet three extraordinary tutors who deserve our heartfelt appreciation.

First up, it’s our pleasure to introduce James Williams.

James has been an indispensable member of our tutoring team since 2022. Not only does he work tirelessly for the students he tutors, but he puts the same effort into helping his team.

Whether a student needs a boost toward a lightbulb moment in math, a couple of extra steps to understand metaphors in ELA, or a teammate has a question about the ins and outs of Framework, our partner in delivering online tutoring, James is ready, willing, and able.

Thanks for all you do, James!

Nicole MoeckelYellow and Green image that reads on the top Tutor Appreciation Week. In a blue rectangle, reads Nicole Moeckel. On the left side, there is a photo of a blonde woman smiling.

Next, let’s hear a round of virtual applause for lead tutor Nicole Moeckel.

Her teaching philosophy is straightforward: Build relationships, have high expectations for yourself and your students, and watch the magic happen.

Since joining the team as a lead tutor in May, Nicole has put her all into elevating students and goes above and beyond to support her fellow tutors. She joins virtual tutoring sessions, provides coaching support, and ensures tutoring content is aligned with district and state standards.

Her secret to building strong relationships with her tutees?

“There is no secret,” she says. “Get to know your students. Ask them each day how they are doing. Your students will work hard for you when they know you care about them.” Just like her students, Nicole is growing every day and in every way and becoming the problem-solver her team needs.

Hats off to you, Nicole! We couldn’t do it without you.

Finally, it’s our pleasure to salute the tutoring efforts of Wanecia Swait.

She’s a tutor who embodies the Carnegie Learning spirit of “All students are capable learners.” And she’s a team player to boot!

Wanecia’s virtual tutoring sessions are a safe space of mutual respect, where she continuously adapts her approach to accommodate diverse learning styles.

Under her tutelage, all students thrive. We couldn’t ask for a finer example of the tutoring spirit.

According to her teammates, Wanecia is also an indispensable member of their professional team. She’s reliable, flexible, and always willing to jump in to lend a helping hand.

Way to go, Wanecia! Your students and team are lucky to have you.

Virtual tutors help thousands of students thrive

Courtney Lewis, Vice President of Tutoring Services, states, "Our tutors are the heart of our department. I often hear from parents how patient, caring, and knowledgeable our tutors are, and it’s exciting to see students getting the resources and support they need to thrive." Carnegie Learning's high-dosage tutoring team helped 9,675 students across the U.S. last school year. That's a lot of students!

And the best part is, it worked. About 94% of students found their tutoring sessions helpful, and 84% said they felt more confident returning to math or ELA class after tutoring.

With every tutor being a certified teacher, students get all the best instructional practices, content expertise, and compassion of dedicated teachers—at an individual or small-group level. And it makes a difference!

Tutor Appreciation Week: Celebrating tutors' dedication and impact

As Tutor Appreciation Week unfolds, let's celebrate the incredible tutors who help students daily.

James, Nicole, and Wanecia represent the best of the tutoring community: Dedication, expertise, and an unwavering commitment to student success.

Thank you to our tutors and all tutors working hard to help students learn and grow nationwide!
